Abnormality - The Collective Calm In Mortal Oblivion

It is not always about the music or lyrics or the meaning behind it. Sometimes it is about the people who make that music. In this case it's about one bad ass woman fronting a brutal death metal band.

I love to see women involved with metal, especially in bands. Not because of some sexual or perverted reason, but because it diversifies metal even further. Metal is a very diverse genre of music and it's fans are even more diverse. Metal is also very open minded to those who are metal. While all that is good, it is still nice to see more female faces among the crowd.

But as for this song and band, I do think they totally kick ass. And for Mallika, she brings a beauty to this brutal landscape of music. Quite killer indeed.

Song: The Collective Calm In Mortal Oblivion
Artist: Abnormality
Album: The Collective Calm In Mortal Oblivion
Year: 2010

The Lyrics:

Disrupting the balance between mass and motion
A fragile marriage, no chance to survive
Tectonic harmonics force collapse into oceans
The human race washed away with the tide

The collective calm in mortal oblivion
Instruments of the tyrannized
The collective calm in mortal oblivion
Decimated and pulverized

Scorched skies, magnetosphere disappeared
Oceans rise, as the earth beneath your feet sinks deep into the sea
Burned alive, spontaneously combust into ash and dust
Vaporized turning all of earth into a burning ball of dirt

The collective calm in mortal oblivion
Instruments of the tyrannized
The collective calm in mortal oblivion
Illumination right before your eyes

Earth’s rotation slows to a pause, ending all centrifugal force
Gravitational tug of war, land mass drowning in a water world
Virulent biosphere, solar winds rip through the sky
Technology in the hands of the wicked
Magma shooting through the soil, global quake as continental plates grind
The foremost authority in fucking with nature
And now it's too late

Billions die in the blink of an eye
Forced to pay the price for the abuse of the device
Mass extermination a state of devastation
The world set ablaze, bring forth the end of days

Pandora’s box unlocked by fools of infamy
Unleashing hell on earth, a living nightmare
Absolute chaos erasing all mortality
The stench of death consuming the air
Water Bloated Bodies
Amassed on virgin shores

Monolith bringer of death
Chaotic inane extermination
The calm replaced by excruciation

Avarice of the few and privileged order
The origins of the cursory, travesty cast down upon all
Ignorant to the realm of possibilities
The consequence is a fate that’s shared by all

Fear Factory - Fear Campaign

This song speaks very personally to me. Fear is indeed the enemy on my path. I fear failure, I fear fucking up. And with that, fear does control me. But I know it's not just me, many others out there have the same fears. Fear controls us. The only way to success is to overcome our fears.

I know this all to well.

Song: Fear Campaign
Artist: Fear Factory
Album: Mechanize
Year: 2010

The Lyrics:

Hate, war and terror, murder, disaster
Rape, drugs and violence, lost in our failure
Fear is suffering, intimidate to obey
Fear is control, suffering is hell
Police enforce obedient behavior
Manufactured weapon of conformity
Fears of war and pestilence
Fear of loss and failure
Fear the hate of your enemy
Fear your god and savior
Savior, failure
What do you fear?
It is the most strategic tool used to manipulate
Intimidation to make me weak in order to obey
Strategy to manipulate, paralyze, intimidate
Righteous greed suffocates, a powerful fear campaign
Mind killing, restricting
Fear is the enemy on my path
Fears of war and pestilence
Fear of loss and failure
Fear the hate of your enemy
Fear your god and savior
Savior, failure
What do you fear?
Fear is your god

Suicidal Tendencies - You Can't Bring Me Down

This is just one of those songs that is full of energy and emotion. A giant middle finger to whoever or whatever opposes you or who you are.

Whenever I hear it, I get energized. It is like a battle cry for non-conformity. For myself, a person who greatly values individuality and strongly opposes the conformity and order that the suit and tie business world forces upon people, this song is just amazing. I always listen to this song when I get people trying to tell me my ways are wrong and then they try and push their corporate bullshit on me. But they can try all they like, the more they try, the more I'll oppose.

Fuck the Man!

Song: You Can't Bring Me Down
Artist: Suicidal Tendencies
Album: Lights... Camera... Revolution
Year: 1990

(There is an actual music video for this song, which is totally awesome except for the fact that it's edited)

The Lyrics:

What the hell's going on around here?
First off-let's take it from the start
Straight out-can't change what's in my heart
No one-can tear my beliefs apart, you can't bring me
You aint-never seen no one like me
Prevail-regardless what the cost might be
Power-flows inside of me, you can't bring me
Never-fall as long as I try
Refuse-to be part of your lie
Even-if it means I die, you can't bring me

You can't bring me down!
Who the hell you calling crazy?
You wouldn't know what crazy was if Charles Manson
...was eating Fruit Loops on your front porch

Time out-let's get something clear
I speak-more truth than you want to hear
Scapegoat-to cover up your fear, you can't bring me
You aint-never seen so much might
Fight for-what I know is right
What up-you got yourself a fight, you can't bring me
Stand up-we'll all sing along
Together-aint nothin' as strong
Won't quit-we aint in the wrong, you can't bring me

You can't bring me down!

Bring me down - you can't bring me down!
Bring me down - you can't bring me down, no!
Bring me down - you can't bring me down!
Bring me down - you can't bring me down, you can't bring me
down!

Tell them what's up rock!
You can't bring me down!

Bring me down - you can't bring me down!
Bring me down - you can't bring me down, no!
Bring me down - you can't bring me down!
Bring me down - you can't bring me down, you can't bring me
down!

So why you trying to bring me
So why you trying to bring
Well you can't bring me down

Just cause you don't understand what's going on
...don't mean it don't make no sense
And just cause you don't like it,...don't mean it aint no good

And let me tell you something

Before you go taking a walk in my world,
...you better take a look at the real world
Cause this aint no Mr. Rogers Neighborhood
Can you say "feel like shit?"
Yea maybe sometimes I do feel like shit
I aint happy about it, but I'd rather feel like shit
...than be full of shit!
And if I offended you, Oh I'm sorry
But, maybe you needed to be offended
But here's my apology and one more thing...Fuck you!
Cause you can't bring me down

Bring me down - you can't bring me down!
Bring me down - you can't bring me down, no!
Bring me down - you can't bring me down!
Bring me down - you can't bring me down, you can't bring me
down!

You can't bring me down!

Suicidal!!!

Sepultura - Attitude

To say Max Cavalera (ex-Sepultura front guy, Soulfly, Nailbomb, and Cavalera Conspiracy front guy) has had an impact on my life is an understatement. Sepultura is the band that got me into heavier music. Max's vocals were the first time I liked harsh vocals. And I loved his lyrical style. The things he wrote about about, they just made sense to me.

Since the very first Sepultura song I ever heard (Refuse/Resist), I have followed the career of Max Cavalera. Right up until the latest Soulfly release, which officially comes out tomorrow. Although I've had it for several day now thanks to pre-order. :P Everything he does inspires me.

To all those people who say not to have rock stars as your idols and people you look up to, fuck off! This guy has changed my perspective on music and life. Every time I see him live is like a religious experience. Words cannot express what comes over me to see the person I admire practice his craft. The last time I saw him live was a Cavalera Conspiracy show, and to see him play some of the old Sepultura classics with his brother (former Sepultura drummer, Igor Cavalera) was one of those nights that a person will never forget.

So all that brings me to this song. Attitude. One of my favorites, if not the favorite. I love the lyrics. In fact my favorite lyric of all time appears in this song, "Live your life and not the way they taught you. Do what you feel!" I love it so much, I would love to have the entire lyrics of this song tattooed on my body at some point.

Song: Attitude
Artist: Sepultura
Album: Roots
Year: 1996

The Lyrics:

One Week Of Struggling
On The Real World Is..
So You Can See !!!

Feel Your Soul And...
Shape Your Mind To Warfare
It's All For Real

Live Your Life
Not The Way They Taught You
Do What You Feel !

Survive The Jungle
Give Me Blood
Give Me Pain
These Scars Won't Heal

What Were You Thinking
What A Wonderful World !!!
You're Full Of Shit

Leave It Behind
They Don't Care If You Cry
All Is Left Is Pain

Can You Take It ?
Can You Take It ?
Can You Take It ?
Can You Take It ?

The Only Way
To Get Away
Kill Your Pride
Attitude

I Won't Take It
I Won't Take It
I Won't Take It
I Won't Take It

So In The End
I Want To See Some Respect
( I Said )
You Better Show Some Respect
( I Said )
Attitude And Respect

Candlemass - Solitude

There are a lot of times in life where I feel down, where I feel the whole world is against me and I am alone. Songs like Candlemass' Solitude seem to convey all that I feel. Every word of the lyrics coupled with the classic doom metal sound let one easily embrace the darkness that surrounds them. Personally I feel that embracing this darkness allows one to heal and see exactly what causes the pains in life.

It is kinda strange but when I delve deep into the darkness, I feel better. It gives me strength and allows me to pull myself back up and feel happy again. I, along with many others who are fans or creators of this type of music, call it, "Letting the negative out to make room for positive." It seems to work for me. Although one could easily quote Metallica on this as well, "Energy derives from both the plus and negative."

Whatever the case may be, I do know that listening and singing along to dark, morbid, and doom filled music makes me feel better about my own existence. I also know that if we lived in the Star Wars universe, I most certainly would not be a Jedi. I have long since given into the Dark Side!

Song: Solitude
Artist: Candlemass
Album: Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Year: 1986

The Lyrics:

I'm sitting here alone in darkness
Waiting to be free,
Lonely and forlorn I'm crying
I long for my time to come
Death means just life
Please let me die in solitude

Hate is my only friend
Pain is my father
Torment is delight to me
Death is my sanctuary
I seek it with pleasure
Please let me die in solitude

Receive my sacrifice
My lifeblood is exhausted
No-one gave love and understanding
Hear these words
Vilifiers and pretenders
And please let me die in solitude

Earth to earth
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust

Hatebreed - In Ashes They Shall Reap

I think the lyrics of this song are pretty self explanatory. I've always loved Hatebreed for their lyrics. I find them so encouraging, so empowering, so positive. I can certainly say I draw strength for whatever is being thrown at me when I listen to Hatebreed.

Of course I've seen them live on multiple occasions and they are certainly among my favorites to see live.

Song: In Ashes They Shall Reap
Artist: Hatebreed
Album: Hatebreed

The Lyrics:

Born to bleed fighting to succeed
Built to endure what this world throws at me

Let me tell you of a force crashing through my veins again
Like a page torn from a chapter of a book of better days
In the moments that we see together some will never know
It’s these words that never give to justice screaming all alone
I was BORN to bleed fighting to succeed
Built to endure what this world throws at me
Born to bleed fighting to succeed
Built to endure what this world throws at me

You may trusted me an answer and put hope in
Me a seed
All these memories come haunt us if we still feel to believe
Now the fear we all once held is a breath we must attain
Because those who sow in flames in ashes they shall reap
Ashes are all that you’re left with what you sow in flames
Our life sorrows of my own creation saving sand for a love

I was born to bleed fighting to succeed
Built to endure what this world throws at me
Born to bleed fighting to succeed
But those who sow in flames in ashes they shall reap
Those who sow in flames in ashes they shall reap

Machine Head - Imperium

If there ever was a song that I felt described my life it would be Machine Head's Imperium. This song is most definitively among my top 5 favorite songs of all time. It is super inspirational and nothing short of amazing. This was the song that got me into Machine Head. Before this they were experimenting with a more Nu Metal sound. This album returned them to the sound they had on their first album. Overall this remains one of my favorite albums in its entirety, even nine years after its release.

To me this song is nothing short of a masterpiece. I had the privilege of seeing Machine Head perform this song live and I gotta say, it was most certainly a high point in my life, one of those moments you never forget.

Machine Fucking Head!

Song: Imperium
Artist: Machine Head
Album: Through the Ashes of Empires

The Lyrics:

Hear me now
Bearing down upon a path we choose
Chosen from the start living different
Rules
Existence something to cherish true
Will not succumb to doubts that I hold
Onto
Release the fear of my pain
In so much pain
Give me the will to fight
Every obstacle that I have inside
Release my fear and

Hear me now
Words I vow
No fucking regrets

Fuck these chains
No god damn slave
I will be different

I'll stand here defiantly
My middle finger raised
Fuck your prejudice

All my life
Always I've felt alone
Conditioned to believe
That I'm always wrong
Only truth will help to set me free
My every weakness
I must turn into strength
Every rage, every tear
Hate in so much hate
Never that pain will bind me
Ask of myself if I've the will to unwind
Every rage and tear

Hear me now
Words I vow
No fucking regrets

Fuck these chains
No god damn slave
I will be different

I'll stand here defiantly
My middle finger raised
Fuck your prejudice

Carved upon my stone
I will go on
Patience, belief
Love will ascend

Just listen to it
Voice so true inside calling
To stand you up and march you on
Keep from falling
Let go your sorrow
Sun will shine, this I promise
Rising tomorrow
Rising

Hear me now
I'm taking back the control
Of my
Life from societies hold
I vow
No more will I be a slave
Rise to
Challenge the whole human race
My spirit you cannot
Break
And we won't
Lose

Getting to the Point

The point of this blog? Well the point is for me to have a blog where I can talk about the biggest thing in my life, that being metal. I just want a place where I can post stuff, post songs and their meanings to me, and shit like that. This is also an attempt to get me to write more often.

Music is my life, it comes before everything. I'm going to try and capture some of that passion here.

Well, here goes...
